Name of God:

El Roi

  “The God Who Sees Me”

Genesis 16:13

Today’s Scripture Verse: “ Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees; for she said, ‘Have I also here seen Him who sees me?’ ”

Also “The God Who opens our eyes”, this is the name ascribed to God by Hagar, alone and desperate in the wilderness after being driven out by Sarah.  She also realized that El Roi saw her in her distress and testified that He is a God who lives and sees all.

Ro’iy in the original Hebrew can be translated as seeinglooking, or gazing. In other words, when we feel most invisible and forgotten by everyone else, we can remember that God does see us.  God knows all of our thoughts and feelings.  Jesus also knew the thoughts of those around Him, demonstrating that He is El Roi.

Application:  There are no circumstances in our lives that escape His fatherly awareness and care.  God knows us and our troubles
