Name of God
El Olam
“The Eternal, Everlasting God”
The Name of God, “Olam” is derived from the Hebrew root ‘lm which means “forever, always, continuous existence, perpetual, everlasting, evermore, indefinite or unending future, eternity”. Used together with the Hebrew word el, the meaning of this name is “The Everlasting God”.
Reflecting on this Name of God, El Olam, teaches us that God created time, yet exists outside of and beyond it. Before the creation of the universe, there was God who had no beginning and no end. In our experience, all things change over time, yet our Father never does. Unquestionably, the Character of God – His Word, His Kingdom, and all He stands for – never changes and never ends.
We have an unceasing, dependable, trustworthy and consistent God! He exists beyond time and space. We can take comfort in the fact that God always was, and always will be God. Note that Jesus possesses all these eternal attributes! He is the same yesterday and today and forever, Hebrews 13:8.
El Olam is the Eternal, Unchanging God: Genesis 21:33; Psalm 72:17, 19; 90:1-3; 93:2; Isaiah 26:4; Isaiah 40:28.
Application: He is the Beginning and the End, the One who works His purposes throughout the ages. El Olam gives strength to the weary.
