? “Because He Lives” ?

God sent his son, they called him Jesus
He came to love, heal and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my savior lives
Because he lives
I can face tomorrow
Because he lives
All fear is gone
Because i know he holds the future
And life is worth the living
Just because he lives
How sweet to hold a newborn baby
And feel the pride and joy he gives
But greater still the calm assurance
This child can face uncertain day because he lives
And then one day I’ll cross the river
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain
And then, as death gives way to victory
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know he reigns

Gloria and William J. Gaither
Born William James Gaither 28 March 1936
in Alexandria, Indiana
Born Gloria Lee Sickal 04 March 1942
in Battle Creek, Michigan
Together they have written more than 700 songs.
They met at Alexandria Monroe High School. Gloria was a French teacher. Bill was teaching English at the time. They married 22 December 1962, and began writing songs recreationally.
Many of those songs (including “Because He Lives”, “I Am Loved”, “Something Beautiful”) would go on to become church hymn book standards across North America and around the world.
By the end of the 1960s, Gloria, Bill, and Bill’s brother Danny Gaither were touring steadily as the Bill Gaither Trio, singing and recording songs Bill and Gloria had written.
In 2000, Bill and Gloria were named Christian Songwriters of the Century by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers  (ASCAP), an award based on the songwriters who have had the most songs recorded over the past 100 years.
Gloria is the recipient of seven honorary doctorate degrees, and she is the author of more than 40 books including 20 children’s books.
Bill founded the Gaither Music Company, which includes the functions of record company, concert booking (Gaither Management Group), television production, copyright management (Gaither Copyright Management), retail store, recording studio (Gaither Studios, formerly Pinebrook Studios) and telemarketing for the Gaither organization.  He also runs a retail center called Gaither Family Resources.
Included as part of the company is Live Bait Productions, an animation company run by Benjy Gaither, one of Bill’s
three children.
Bill and Gloria still live in Alexandria, Indiana.

While expecting their third child, the Gaithers were going through a rather traumatic time in their lives. Bill was recovering from a bout with mononucleosis. It was a special period of anxiety and mental anguish for Gloria.
Discouraged and disheartened, they looked for signs of hope. One day in spring, Bill walked out of his office to inspect a newly paved parking area. Construction workers had covered it with several coats of asphalt. Bill was satisfied with the job that had been done, but as he turned, he noticed a tiny blade of grass poking through the layers of rock and tar, reaching for the sunlight.
When they brought their baby home, they remembered the tiny blade of grass that was prospering in a hostile environment. But more importantly, they remembered their baby could indeed face an uncertain life “because Christ lives”.
From an interview with Gloria –
“‘Because He Lives’ [1971] was written in the midst of social upheaval, threats of war, and betrayals of national and personal trust. It was into this world at such a time that we were bringing our third little baby. Assassinations, drug traffic, and war monopolized the headlines. It was in the midst of this kind of uncertainty that the assurance of the Lordship of the risen Christ blew across our troubled minds like a cooling breeze in the parched desert. Holding our tiny son in our arms we were able to write:
‘How sweet to hold our newborn baby,
And feel the pride, and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance,
this child can face uncertain day because He lives.’”
